Where Rumi came to rest
Rumi, born in Balkh, spent most of his life in Konya, then a Seljuk city, and died there in 1273. A mausoleum was built over his grave, and the Mevlevi order, the whirling dervishes, grew up around it into a lodge with a mosque, a hall for the ceremony and cells for dervishes.
The green dome
Its turquoise fluted dome is the best known sight of Konya. Today the lodge is a museum, opened in 1927, and still draws visitors from around the world who come to see the tomb and the manuscripts, including people of many faiths.
