Debates in verse
Parvin E’tesami was born in Tabriz and grew up in Tehran in a learned family. She is best known for her munazara, poems in which two voices, such as a needle and a thread, or a tear and a pearl, argue a point, often with a moral. Her Divan was first published in 1935.
A place in tradition
She wrote in the classical forms, in the line of Saadi and Nasir Khusraw, and is remembered for her clear, thoughtful style. She died in Tehran in 1941.
