A tomb in tile
The mausoleum is an octagon with an onion-shaped dome and four entrances, the north one being the main door. The outside is covered with green, yellow and blue tiles and carvings. It was built in the 15th century, in the Timurid era, at the order of the poet and statesman Ali-Shir Nava’i.
A painter beside the poet
In the surrounding garden lies the painter Kamal-ol-Molk, who is also honoured in Nishapur. The two share a quiet place, a few kilometres from the grave of Khayyam.
