A town of potters
Lalejin lies in the hills of Hamedan province, about 20 kilometres north of Hamedan itself. Its name is linked to a word for clay, and the town is known across Iran as a heartland of pottery and ceramics. Its sister city is Faenza in Italy, another city of ceramics.
What they make
Workshops turn out bowls, jugs, vases and decorative pieces, many glazed in the blues and greens that Persian ceramics are loved for. Many are made by families who learned the trade from their parents.
A Hamedan connection
Lalejin belongs to the same part of Iran as Hamedan, home of Baba Taher and Mount Alvand. Look for Lalejin bowls in the Bazaar.
